Collagen Stimulators
A collagen stimulator activates collagen renewal in the skin, and restores inner volume and structure. It consists of a substance injected into the skin, and once injected, will stimulate collagen production.
Results are gradual and are generally visible after a few months post initial treatment, lasting up to two years or more. We use both Sculptra and Aesthefill.
Sculptra
Sculptra is a biostimulator which contains poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). These PLLA particles stimulate the natural production of collagen within the areas of injection. As we age, we lose 1-1.5% of collagen yearly. Collagen is crucial in providing structure, tone and elasticity to the skin. In order to organically replace these collagen loss, the most ideal way is to prompt your body to stimulate new collagen. With the PLLA particles injected into these areas, it will help restore volume, improve skin texture and elasticity, and reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.
As collagen generally takes several weeks to gradually build and remodel from the immature type III collagen to the mature type I collage, the results of Sculptra treatment is gradual. It generally takes about 3 months before you start seeing results. The most important benefit is that the results are so natural-looking and last for up to 25 months. This treatment is a popular option for those seeking a long-lasting, non-surgical rejuvenation.
The suggested treatment protocol is 2 sessions of Sculptra injections spread 4-6 weeks apart. Sculptra can then be injected yearly as a maintenance. With Sculptra, it is important to massage the treated areas for 5 mins, 5 times a day for 5 days.
Aesthefill
AestheFill is another type of injectable biostimulator treatment that uses Poly-D,L-lactic acid (PDLLA) microspheres to stimulate the production of collagen and improve the texture and appearance of the skin. This will turn back time and create a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance.
Over the course of the next few weeks, collagen is gradually stimulated and remodelled from the immature type III collagen to mature type I collagen. These PDLLA microspheres are then gradually broken down by the body. As collagen is produced, it adds volume and improve the overall texture and appearance of the skin. The natural effect also lasts for up to 2 years.
The treatment regime is generally 2 sessions spread 4-6 weeks apart. The treatment can also be repeated should you desire greater improvement. Once the overall effect is achieved, the results can be maintained with a yearly treatment.
There is minimal downtime with the procedure. There will be mild swelling and bruising which generally settles down by the next couple of days. Unlike Sculptra, there is no need for post procedure massage after the treatment.
What are the indications for Sculptra and Aesthefill?
What to expect during the treatment?
Sculptra versus Aesthefill
In our clinic, these are the two type of biostimulators that we recommend. Aesthefill has the same treatment indications as Sculptra. However, the difference between Aesthefill and Sculptra is that Aesthefill is a slightly more versatile treatment based on the ability to dilute it to various concentrations based on the areas of treatment. As such, it can be used to treat the forehead, central face and under the eyes. In lower dilutions, it functions as a filler to improve the contours of your nose and chin. In higher dilutions, it can function as a skin booster to improve your skin quality.
